Extended Term™ Closed Suction System

Egret medical is pleased to announce its patented breakthrough in-line closed suction system. Unlike other in-line closed suction systems, Egret offers a variety of unique features including its proprietary technology that minimizes change outs and breaking of the ventilation circuit. Egret’s system is all about improved patient safety and outcomes.

However, Egret did not stop there in the quest to design a better product. Most competitors’ closed suction systems vent the air from the catheter sheath, when inserting the catheter, directly into the environment. This can increase the risk of cross-contamination as the vented air may contain pathogens from the within the closed patient ventilator interface. To address this potential risk, Egret utilizes a microporous filter at the distal end of the sheath which is designed to trap pathogens.

In our drive to make the best product available we added swivels at all connections to reduce torque on the endotracheal tube (ETT) or tracheostomy tube (trach) for patient comfort. The swivels also make it easier to position and move ventilator circuits without undue stress on the patient interface. The swivels are on all of our product line, not just the high end products.

Our catheter, saline port assembly also swivels making it easier to undo the inevitable twists in the sheath. This also makes it easier to position the saline ampule or syringe regardless of the patient and circuit position.

Our neonatal products also incorporate a capped port for introducing a catheter for surfactant administration. The neonatal product can be safely used on any ventilator interface, Oscillator, Jet, or conventional and on either ETT or trach with no remodeling or ‘jerry-rigging’ required. There is no need to replace or change the 15mm adapter on the end of the ETT, ours fits right on with a swivel in place.

One other innovation is the improved suction valve and lock system that really can be unlocked and actuated with one hand regardless of the size of hand.

A significant number of RCP’s rated the Egret catheter as an improvement compared to the Ballard catheter in the following five categories: suction valve ease of use; valve locking safety feature; catheter positioning and ease of manipulating; product flexibility to patient movement; comfort to patient.
